“The quality of a team is reflected in the attitudes of its members — their honesty, mutual respect, and their efforts to foster understanding.”
Dr. Tobias Schmenn
Medical Director, Medical Operations Coordinator,
Specialist for Orthopädie and Trauma Surgery Sports medicine
He has been an integral part of the Sportklinik medical team since 2012 and assumed the position of senior physician at the Center for Joint Replacement in 2018. Even while studying medicine, he had already developed a desire to one day work at the Lüdenscheid specialty clinic. After a brief stint in the outpatient sector in Dortmund, he therefore returned to the Sportklinik Hellersen in 2024 as Medical Operations Coordinator. In this role, he coordinates the medical processes of the clinic and the affiliated medical care center and serves as a liaison between medical staff, nursing staff, and management. Since January 2026, Dr. Tobias Schmenn has also served as Medical Director.

Where so you see the Sportklinik Hellersen in five years?
Dr. Tobias Schmenn: I see the Sportklinik Hellersen as a facility where outpatient and inpatient care are even more closely integrated. The goal is to ensure that patients are guided through our systems seamlessly, and that processes are clear, understandable, and well-coordinated. Process optimization and meaningful digitalization will play a central role in combining high-quality medical care with efficient organization.
What is particularly important to you in your day-to-day interactions at the Sportklinik Hellersen?
Dr. Tobias Schmenn: Open and respectful communication is particularly important to me. Only by trying to understand the situation and the other person’s perspective can we solve challenges together. Treating one another with respect builds trust and lays the foundation for effective collaboration in our daily clinical work.
What role does teamwork play for you, both in the clinic and in professional sports?
Dr. Tobias Schmenn: For me, teamwork is the key to success. Whether in a hospital or in professional sports, no single person can carry the entire burden. Only when everyone involved — from the nursing staff to the medical team to the administrative staff — works together toward a common goal can we achieve stability and high performance.
