The world is becoming closer together. Knowledge, innovation and professional exchange have long since transcended borders – even in medicine. Whilst many healthcare systems are still heavily influenced by national factors, it is becoming increasingly clear that the future of medicine is international. For the Sportklinik Hellersen, this development is not an abstract trend, but a lived reality – and a central component of our strategic direction.
A particular milestone on this journey is certification by the Arab Board of Health Specialisations. As the first clinic worldwide outside the Arab states, the Sportklinik Hellersen has been granted authorisation to train specialists in orthopaedics and trauma surgery in accordance with Arab standards. This distinction is far more than a seal of quality. It stands for trust, for established international partnerships and for the recognition of our medical and structural excellence.
For our patients, this means care of the highest international standard. For the Sportklinik Hellersen, this opens up the opportunity to share and further develop medical knowledge across national borders. At the same time, we are creating new opportunities for recruiting skilled staff and sustainably strengthening South Westphalia as a centre for healthcare. The Sportklinik Hellersen is thus becoming a place where international medicine is put into practice. In this issue of ‘Hellersen Insight’, dear readers, you will learn not only what certification by the Arab Board means, but also what positive effects this has for the whole of North Rhine- Westphalia.
Yet, despite our international reach, one thing remains constant at the heart of everything we do: providing the best possible care for our patients. This is also reflected in the medical topics covered in this issue. Among other things, we focus on the cervical spine – one of the most sensitive areas of the human body, the treatment of which requires the highest level of experience and precision.
You’ll also find out why exercise is particularly important when you have a joint replacement, and in our „Insight“ section you’ll get an exclusive look behind the scenes at our operating theatre and the work of #TeamOP. One particularly moving story is that of Max Kruse. Following a serious wrist injury, his career as a professional athlete was on the brink of ending. However, at the Sportklinik Hellersen, he was able to receive the help he needed and his career as a freerider was saved.
We hope you enjoy reading this.
Yours, Dirk Burghaus
